Education for All

The region of Mayapur was once known throughout India as a seat of learning, as the home of the famed Nadia University of medieval times. However, over the centuries the area has fallen far behind and now suffers from a paucity of educational facility, particularly in the rural  areas where SMVS has begun work.

Many government run primary schools lack even school rooms and almost all the schools have student teacher ratios of around 100 to 1. Baseline surveys in the initial SMVS target area of Sri Mayapur Bamanpukur  Gram Panchayats 1 and 2 revealed a nearly 60% drop out rate. 1991  Census figures for the area show just 45% literacy for men and only 24% literacy for women.

Bhaktivedanta Vidya Mandir (BVM)

One of the first SMVS projects was the establishment of a model village primary school in nearby Ballaldighi village way back in 1995.

With this funding from Goldener Lotus, Germany, the school structure is completed. The funds also provided school equipment and advanced training for our teachers.
