UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)

                                         

The eight UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) – which range from halving extreme poverty to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS and providing universal primary education, all by the target date of 2015 – form a blueprint agreed to by all the world’s countries and all the world’s leading development institutions. They have galvanized unprecedented efforts to meet with needs of the worlds poorest.

The Goals:

1.        Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger

2.        Achieve universal primary education

3.        Promote gender equality and empower women

4.        Reduce child mortality

5.        Improve maternal health

6.        Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases

7.        Ensure environmental sustainability

  •      Integrate the principles of sustainable development into country policies and programs; reverse loss of environmental resources.

  •       Reduce by half the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water;

  • ·     Achieve significant improvement in lives of at least 100 million slum dwellers, by 2020.

      8.       Develop a global partnership for development

The goals of SMVS contribute to the Millennium Development Goals regarding reduce child mortality, achieve universal primary education, improve maternal health and promote gender equality and empower women.

We are interested to implement the following projects and we need support from International volunteers:

  • Empowerment of Women through Establishment of Skill Training Centre and Promotion of Micro-credit to support MDG No.3.

  • Stop Girl Child Labour in Handloom Weaving and Agriculture Sectors through Establishment of Education and Counselling Centre to support MDG No.2.

  • Community Health Care (preventive and curative) for Women and Children to support MDG No.4 and 5.

  • Establishment of Girl Child School to support MDG No.2.

  • Safe Arsenic Free Drinking Water Facilities and Hygiene Education to support MDG No.7.

Types of Volunteers Needed:

  • Project Proposals development and fund raising volunteers.

  • English teaching volunteers for our Primary School.

  • Computer teaching and website developing volunteers for our school.

  • Soccer Project development volunteers for school Children.

  • Tourism volunteers.

  • Video film making volunteers.

  • General volunteers for fund raising campaign.

Duration of Volunteers’ Stay:

Long term: 1 month to 12 months (all depends upon the activities of volunteers).

Short term: 7 days to 15 days (all depends upon the activities of volunteers).

---- Volunteers’ pick up from Netaji Subhash International Airport, Kolkata: SMVS people will pick up volunteers from the airport by car and drop again. Car renting charge is Euro 50.
